The Crossvines

The Crossvines is located in Poolesville, Maryland. They refer to themselves as a  "countryside oasis for gathering, savoring, and celebrating." You definitely feel it as soon as you pull up to the property. It is large and impressive. The Crossvines is more than a winery. It is also a production facility, restaurant, golf course and event venue. The name, Crossvines, is named after the begonia capreolata, a fast-growing, woody, perennial, evergreen climbing vine native to this area. The Crossvines feels it shares the plant's growth, resilience and beauty. We were lucky enough to talk with Tyler and Jon at the 2025 Maryland Wine Festival when we podcasted live. They were the first people to come over and talk to us about how this all got started. They work for the  Montgomery County Revenue Authority which operate 9 golf courses. Their CEO, Keith Miller, along with Mark Eldridge and Secretary of Agriculture, Ken Atticks all wanted to start a winery by doing custom crush operations and grow the wine industry. Wineries can reach out and make their wine in the production facility. It all got started in 2023 with their first vintage. The cabernet franc already won double gold at the Maryland Governor's Cup in 2025. In addition to wine, they got some apples in that they have  been successful in making some pretty great ciders with, as well. Their first vintage was made in a dry style. The most recent vintage was flavored with some peach and black cherry flavoring, conveniently canned and named Long Drive Cherry. It won the Jack Aellan Cup in 2025 and we were able to try it during the podcast. It was so fruity and refreshing.  They have benefited from working closely with Dr. Joe Fiola from the  University of Maryland in their 4-acre research vineyard, studying new cultivars. You can drink their wines and ciders at all of their golf courses and also their restaurant, Farmhouse Bistro, which we had the pleasure of visiting in December 2025. As soon as you enter, you notice the country chic décor, wooden tables, high backed wood chairs and large windows overlooking the golf course. You have the ability to order wine flights to taste through their wines which, of course, we did. Our favorites from that tasting were the blanc de blanc, cabernet franc and the rose. We did a Bottle  Review Podcast on the blanc de blanc so check it out! It had great notes of biscuit,  lemon, pear and melon. The cab franc had red fruit and pepper on the nose and cherry, raspberry and tannin on the palate. The rose had great bright acidity, strawberry, lime and melon. With so much going on, check this place out and make a day of it!
