Castle Hill Winery

Castle Hill Winery is located in Hagerstown, Maryland and owned by Kent and Denise Reid. They have been open since May 2024 and have a lovely tasting room in what used to be their garage. They remodeled it and now have a cozy space with a bar, a few tables and chairs, outdoor patio space and even some tin on the walls they acquired from a local church that no longer need it. Both Kent and Denise are from Clear Spring, Maryland. All of their grapes are locally sourced from wineries in Pennsylvania and Maryland like Big Cork and Six Wicket. They have a full line of dry, semi-sweet and sweet wines, something for everyone and work with a local pizza place, Gio's, so guests can come Friday nights to enjoy their wine and get food delivered to them. Over the summer they had a successful grape stomp event that will likely now be an annual event to check out, along with a Groundhog's Day event in February. We planned on being in and out quickly for this visit due to how far of a drive it was for us and, as usual, we had other wineries to get to that day. Denise and Kent were such goods hosts, we would end up staying over an hour and chatting with them while tasting through our flights. Denise gave us a plate of local peppermint pretzels to enjoy with our semi-sweet wines which were  super festive and tasty. Our favorite wines were the cabernet franc, marquette and the riesling. The marquette was full of blackberry and blueberry fruit, with a vanilla aroma. The cabernet franc, we're doing a Bottle Review Podcast on so check it out! Those grapes came from Six Wicket. The riesling was semi-sweet, medium plus acid and full of tropical fruit like pineapple. What an enjoyable visit by lovely hosts. We even got to meet their cute dog on the way out who woke up from her nap to meet us.
