Bordeleau Vineyard & Winery

Bordeleau Vineyard & Winery is located in Eden, Maryland. Bordeleau means "The  Water's Edge" which is a nod to it being on the Wicomico Creek. Wine owners, Thomas and Lisa Shelton, hand harvest everything and use lots instead of years or vintages, meaning they will mix vintages but all grapes come from the lot number indicated on the  bottle. We did a bottle review podcast on the Lot 8 merlot so, to use that as an example, Lot 8 is all merlot on their property. The location of the vineyard has a similar climate to Bordeaux and their wines seem to have a lot of that influence. Bordeleau's reds especially have been excellent and award-winning over the years. Our favorites are the merlot, malbec and cabernet franc. The age and complexity come through in most of their reds year after year. Their merlot lot 8 was earthy with aromas of mushroom, cedar, cocoa, sage, green olives, white pepper and smoke. The ripe red fruits like plum and raspberry came through on the palate and the finish lingered. It was aged 55 months in French and American oak. We have seen Bordeleau over the years at festivals like Wine in the Woods and the Maryland Wine Festival and also at their tasting room on the Eastern Shore. It is cozy and on the water. Dogs are always friendly and running around. As far as we know they are still doing live tastings, in addition to glasses and bottles. Live music frequents the winery on the weekends. The prices of their bottles are very affordable. Check them out!
