Springfield Manor
Springfield Manor is located in Thurmont, Maryland. It's a winery, brewery, distillery, inn, event venue - you name it. They have been voted Frederick's Best Event Venue and when you visit them, you get why. The property is large, gorgeous and quite popular. Their ballroom and restored bank barn seat 300 guests and the inn allows you to stay on the property which make them a great option for weddings and large celebrations. Their beer is handcrafted and their spirits are barrel aged. The 130-acre estate sits atop a limestone aquifer which produces the spring water Springfield Manor is named after. The farm produces grapes, hay, corn and lavender. The lavender fields are stunning and are shown off annually every summer during their popular lavender festival when they are in bloom. Springfield even has their own bees. John and Amie St. Angelo purchased the farm in 2004 which includes the impressive manor house, which dates back to 1765. Luckily for us, their original plan for the property didn't work out and they pivoted into started a winery and distillery. The corn grown on the property is used to make the spirits, the grapes in the wine and the lavender infuses the gin and vodka. We enjoyed tasting through not only the spirits from Frederick County's first distillery, but also a flight of their dry wines available. Our favorites were the sauvignon blanc and the Iron Master Reserve. The sauvignon blanc was bright with aromas of lemon, melon and pear and medium plus acidity. The Iron Master Reserve red blend was full of red fruit like cherry and raspberry, and also had lovely aromas of cocoa and vanilla from the aging in French oak. You also have the option of enjoying ambers, IPA's, stouts, browns, pales and ciders from the brewery and even cocktails like their mojitos, margaritas and lavender lemonade. Their truly is something for everyone here and enjoying live music on their patio while overlooking the lavender fields and vines is a vibe.
