Layton’s Chance Vineyard & Winery

Layton's Chance Vineyard and Winery is located in Vienna, Maryland on a farm that has been owned by the Layton family since 1948. The winery has been open for 15 years,  since 2010. Passionate about the concept of making wine and cultivating a great tasting experience, a sign hanging in the tasting room says it all "We work like crazy so our guests can be lazy!" Joseph H. Layton, Sr. purchased the original farm. The next generation, Joe and Laura turned it into a successful grain operation and William Layton created the winery and vineyard by planting the first grapes in 2007. Today, you will see the full 14 acres of grapes like vidal blanc, traminette, chambourcin and norton. We had the pleasure of visiting Layton's Chance on Black Friday. They were all decorated for the holidays with wreaths in all of the windows and Christmas music playing throughout the tasting room. Pair that with the red color of the building and we were in a festive mood from the moment we got out of the car. The friendly staff was great about turning on the heat lamps on the porch so we could sit outside with our  dog. We were able to taste through 10 wines in two flights and our favorites were the  Farm White and the Norton. Farm White is a blend of vidal blanc and traminette and  had floral aromas and apricot and clementine on the palate. The Norton was full of black fruit like blackberry, currant and plum. They had an interesting red infused with Rise Up coffee and chocolate candies and oyster crackers were served with the flights. If this all isn't enough to get you in the holiday spirit, check out their upcoming events like the Ugly Sweater Party, Mistletoe & Mimosas and Christmas Cookie Class.
