Lands Point Winery and Vineyards

Lands Point Winery and Vineyards is located in Chestertown, Maryland on a historic farm which used to be used as a hunting lodge. It was also occupied for over a century and a half by 6 generations of one of the founding Quaker families of Kent County and utilized as a commercial side-wheeler steam boat stop post Civil War. We had the  pleasure of seeing a significant amount of the property during their most recent Hike and Wine event in October 2025. One of the family members took us and two other  couples on a scenic hike during a gorgeous fall day. We saw everything from their  amazing private beach with views of the Chesapeake Bay to the unique paw paw trees bearing this interesting fruit. Dave and Eileen are the owners. This started as a hobby for them and grew to the operation it is today. 1 acre of grapes were planted in 2008 and they have been open since 2022, producing 120 cases a year. At the conclusion of the hike, Dave had flights ready for each of us to taste their wines. We split the red and the white flights. Both flights included the unique cote rotie style blend made from red and white wines fermented separately and then combined afterwards. It was  served chilled. We got notes of tart cranberry, banana and red apple. Dave told us he had 4 different fermentations going for this wine and he used malolactic fermentation on all of his wines. He has a great working relationship with Joe Fiola, the viticulture and small fruit specialist for the University of Maryland. Joe advised them on what to plant when they were getting started and it includes grapes like vidal, chardonel,  cabernet franc and chambourcin. The 2019 red blend had aromas of forest floor from its age, but also pepper, cherry, smoke and soft tannins. The 2020 red blend was more fruit forward but also earthy with notes of mushroom, cherry and cranberry. We had such an enjoyable experience at this winery. Check them out when they re-open next season. You can walk, drive or even boat to this winery!
