Cove Point Winery

Cove Point Winery is located in Lusby, Maryland, six miles north of Solomon's Island and near Cove Point Lighthouse. Cove Point Lighthouse is Maryland's oldest operational lighthouse. They grow grapes in their vineyard from vidal, to cabernet franc, to niagara and even verdicchio. They import others locally and have been making wine since 2004. While we have made it to their location in Lusby, we typically have seen them over the years at various festivals like the Baltimore Wine & Food Festival and the Maryland Wine Festival. They also attend the Maryland Home and Garden Show every year and pour their wines for those visitors. Our favorites over the years have been their barbera and their verdicchio. We did a bottle review podcast on the verdicchio so check it out! It is the only one in the state we are aware of being made and we think that has to do with their being situated on the eastern coast of Southern Maryland. That is very similar to the Marshe region in Italy where they are making verdicchio. We got bright green fruit and citrus notes from the 2021 that we did the podcast on and even a little peach, honey and tangerine. Cove Point is a small, family owned, boutique winery. The  tasting room is small and quaint but offers wines by tasting, glass or bottle. There are tables outside and right across the street is the Chesapeake Bay. They are also sold in a number of liquor stores across the state and this time of year frequent farmer's markets.
