New Market Plains Vineyards

New Market Plains Vineyards is located in New Market, Maryland on the former estate of Nicholas Hall, Sr., the co-founder of New Market. The farm has remained in their family since the 1760's. Vineyards were re-planted in 2012. Prior to being a winery, the property was a dairy farm, among other things. It is currently owned and operated by Susan and Howard Wilson. Susan is a direct descendant of Nicholas Hall, Sr., and is co-winemaker at the winery. She has been passionate about gardening and agriculture her whole life and even wrote the first Municipal Forest Conservation ordinance to be approved in Maryland while she was member and chairman of the New Market Planning Commission. Howard is vineyard manager and co-winemaker and a former president of the Maryland Grape Growers Association. We had previously visited this winery years ago. They hadn't made any new vintages of wine in a while so we were excited to hear there were newly released wines in 2025. We purchased bottles of their muscat blanc and rose. The muscat blanc was a little effervescent and made in the pet nat style. It was very aromatic with floral white flowers, pear, lemon, peach and some minerality on the finish. The rose had nice watermelon and strawberry notes and great acidity. Check this winery out when you get a chance, they have some fun new wines to taste.
